All I Want for Christmas...

I love to buy gifts for other people, but does anyone else out there feel like when the holiday season rolls around, you suddenly find a million amazing things for yourself? Guilty. I really do enjoy buying for my daughter and husband, and pretty much everyone else in my family, but it never fails that when I am searching for that perfect gift for them, I'm constantly finding a few perfect little gifts for me too. Here is what I am asking my husband for this year. I have dropped several hints at this point:)

I certainly don't need a watch. A few years ago my husband bought me a watch (a very expensive one, he always adds) from Jared. I love it but it's white gold, and I really am loving all these awesome layering ideas that showcase yellow gold. If you're not on the yellow gold train, get on it! It's back and it's fabulous! How amazing is that watch layered with the chain bracelet? I mean...

Speaking of layering... When cruising Pinterest, I found some awesome pictures of layered jewelry and noticed that is was all coming from this cute little site called Swell Caroline. I, of course, tapped on my pin so that it would take me to the site, and from then on I have been hooked! They have so many amazing pieces, some even from other vendors. I told my husband I wanted a piece of jewelry that had my daughter, Lola's, name or initials on it, and when I saw the cuff bracelet, I knew that was my piece. I am not a necklace kind of girl (when it comes to your typical mother's necklace) so I knew I needed something other than what I was seeing on Etsy and a few other sites. Everything was just way too traditional to me. I think the cuff bracelet, paired with the watch (lets pray I get both!) will be the perfect layered gold jewelry statement. I hope your holiday season shopping is going well. Just a side note, I am done shopping for others, so at this point it's not totally selfish to be thinking of what I want :)

Happy styling/shopping!

Savings Love

Shawl Collar Faux Leather Moto Jacket
Cowl Neck Sweater
Exact Stretch Zip Pocket Pencil Skirt
678 Cuffed Slim Boyfriend Jeans

Recently I decided that it was time to cash in those oh-so-amazing virtual dollars from, where else, The Limited. I used to let them expire, thinking I had already saved, be it a sale going on or by using other coupons that were out, but in using them, I found out what a huge difference they make!
I decided to get some sweaters and new pencil skirt, a pair of boyfriend jeans (which the verdict is still out on) and my biggest splurge, the faux leather jacket pictured above. I love the jacket, like the two sweaters and skirt, and again, am not sure how I feel about the jeans. With that said, I saved $220 bucks and got 5 items for $145! That’s an amazing savings in my book, as the jacket was originally $128 on its own (if that helps you to put things into perspective). I might wander in the store and exchange the jeans for the distressed boyfriend jeans that I think I might like more, but otherwise, I’m happy with all my items. I think what I don’t like about the boyfriend jeans I currently have is that I need a cute heeled bootie to wear with them. Once the shoe is right, I think my like will turn to love. If you have virtual dollars-spend them! They are good until October 29th.

Happy shopping/saving!

Little Black Dress Love

This past weekend the hubby and I had a wedding to go to, and since I rarely seem to get many opportunities to dress up these days, I decided to buy a new little black dress and accessories to go with it.

The dress I wore is from The Limited and I love it! I received many compliments on it, and I think what I love about it the most are the pockets-LOL! I love when dresses have pockets, so in seeing this one in the store (next to a blue one that was very similar to it) I went for the black because of the pockets. I got it on sale, as The Limited was running a 40% off dresses sale, but this dress is not on their website for some reason. Hopefully it will be soon!

The jewelry I wore was very in-expensive. I bought my necklace at Target and the bracelet at Forever 21. I do not shop in Forever 21 for clothes, as I often see my young students in there and I am past the age of 21-LOL- but in my mall we have a Forever 21 accessory store, so I pop in there from time-to-time. The bracelet retails for $3.80 (I bought it in silver, too) and the necklace was $16.99. The earrings are a favorite of mine and I bought them at Express several years ago. Because the neckline of my dress was a deep ‘V,’ I opted for a longer necklace. I thought it looked pretty good with my dress.

My shoes were a steal! I bought them at DSW and they are from Jessica Simpson’s collection. They were on sale for $59.99, but if you are an avid DSW shopper, then you know that they often give you more off of their clearance based on the sticker color. I got an additional 50% off of the shoes, making them $29.99-a steal! I love them and have to say they were pretty comfortable until I tore up the dance floor in them J! (More shoe love coming soon to the blog!)

I had a fabulous time at the wedding celebrating with great friends and family! I could not be happier for the lovely couple!

Happy styling!

Stud Love

I have to say I have found a new love for stud earrings. I used to think that stud earrings were kind of juvenile, as that seems to be all I wore as a young girl, but they have definitely taken on a new life and style. I love wearing them with statement necklaces, and I often find I would rather wear a great pair of studs over my chandelier or hoop earrings. When shopping for a great stud earring, I like to go with a little bit bigger of a stud so it can be seen even when my hair is down. I really think the stud should pretty much cover your entire ear lobe. Here are three pairs I wear all the time

The floral studs are really just fun to me. They are a great neutral earring (I know, I have a sickness…) and look good with really anything. I wear them a lot to work, but find they look cute with some of the outfits I go out in too.

The turquoise earrings are in my ears probably a little too often. I bought them and the floral studs at Francesca’s. They look awesome with other colors, and I wear them often with my turquoise bubble necklace. I really have not found an outfit that they don’t go with. They are just big enough to be seen, but aren’t obnoxious. I am currently sporting a shorter hair cut (swing bob) and I love being able to see a peek of them even when my hair is down.

The yellow jeweled dot studs are from The Limited (where else?-LOL) and like the turquoise studs, they really add a pop of color to a lot of my outfits (and you all know I love a neutral, so this gives me that pop of color I need).  They were on clearance when I bought them and I wear them with outfits that need a little something extra.

I hope you fall in love with stud earring all over again, as they have come a long way from your typical diamond stud. Or birthstone stud…remember those?! LOL

Happy styling!

Gone Apple Pickin'

Today, we took advantage of the fall-like weather here in the Midwest and decided to go apple picking with our daughter, Lola, at Eckert’s. She loved it! We had a great family day and I thought she was too stinking cute to not share some pictures from our outing. Hope you had an equally fun Saturday!

XOXO-Andrea

Lola’s jumper is made by Carter’s and is from Macy’s, and her footless stockings are by Genuine Kids from Target.

The Statement Necklace

In preparation for a wedding I have next weekend, I was going through my closet wondering if I should splurge on a new dress, or just wear something I have. I have a great black dress that I bought at Loft a few years back during their after Christmas sale, and have only worn it once. In thinking about how I would accessorize this dress, I came to the conclusion that I need a new statement necklace. There are so many styles of statement necklaces in numerous colors, etc., and I really want to purchase something that I can wear again, and that isn’t so neutral (To know me is to know I love a neutral! Gold, silver…well, that’s about it-LOL). While surfing the web, I found a few that I love and that I could definitely wear with other outfits. I also wanted to branch out and get one with some color, as most of my necklaces, again, are pretty neutral and tend to be gold or silver, with some embellishments. In addition to the necklace, you always want to go pretty simple with your earring choice. The statement necklace is called that for a reason: It’s the star of your jewelry show, so-to-speak, so I often wear stud earrings when I have a statement necklace on. I love stud earrings. Something about their simplicity has me wanting to buy a pair every time I shop. (I will share some of my favorite stud earrings in another post…coming soon!”) Here are a few statement necklaces I found in different color combinations. Visit Simple Addiction and Francesca’s to find these statement necklaces and many more!

Fall Must Haves Exclusively From The Limited

The Limited is one of my favorite stores. The Limited also loves teachers, so it’s a win-win situation for me. Recently, while taking advantage of the BOGO pants sale (this sale has since ended) I received $50 in virtual dollars, and then was emailed the coupons pictured above the next day-BONUS! I always check The Limited’s website before I head into the store when I have such amazing coupons. I decided to plan out what I might purchase with the coupons, and decided to put together a list of my top picks for fall.

50% off a Jacket: The quilted faux leather jacket is my new obsession! I have pinned a lot in the way of mixing in leather with pattern button-downs and jeans, and I am in love with the look and style of this jacket. I am definitely going to purchase this with my coupon.

BOGO off Accessories: I recently got rid of most purses that I own, with the exception of some timeless, classic handbags I have, and really need a new purse that isn’t black. The camel colored tote is perfect! I think as far as style goes, it looks very high-end, and I love that it’s big enough for me to take and use as a diaper bag, too!

The leopard scarf would have to be my pick for my FREE accessory. To know me is to know I love a good scarf, and I do not have a leopard one at the moment, and see so many cute pins that feature one, so I have to have this one. And the best part is it will be FREE! J

50% off a Top: The camel wrap shirt is something I feel would be a great top for me to pair with skinny jeans in a dark wash and riding boots: my favorite fall look. I always read reviews and this top has great reviews that promise that it is both beautiful and flattering, flattering being a word I often look for when reading a review on any piece of clothing. There are other colors available, but I am a neutral girl at heart. Greys, blacks, and browns are what my eye is often drawn to. I need to branch out, but I like what I like. J Besides, add a bright accessory like a statement necklace in a bold color, and there’s your pop of color. See, I can branch out. J

50% off a Sweater: Do you see a pattern? The camel and grey sweater is a new arrival and also comes in other color combinations (I might branch out and get the purple) but again, I love the camel and grey combo. Two neutrals in one garment? I might die! LOL I will definitely be picking up this piece as well.

If you aren’t an avid Limited shopper, I hope this has you wanting to go in the store and browse around. You cannot beat their coupons! I am forever talking to co-workers and friends about pieces that I own and where I got them, and most of us agree that The Limited is one of our go-to stores. I hope it becomes one of yours, too!

Happy shopping! XOXO

Bachelorette Saturday

The day has finally come! Happy bachelorette party day to the future Mrs. Bruce! I cannot wait to celebrate with her! And how adorable are the shirts one of her bridesmaid made for all of us ladies? If there is one thing I love, it's a custom t-shirt! I hope tonight is wild and fun and everything you hoped for, Angela!

Lets Call it a Day...

After many changes, I think I am almost done designing my blog. Almost...The header is still just, well, blah, but I am hoping to take care of that soon enough. Additionally, I am cleaning things up as far as what I plan to blog about. I think at first I had too many ideas and I wanted to incorporate every aspect of my life, but what it really boils down to is styling. I love clothes. I love buying clothes, I love helping others put together outfits, and I just love changing up my look and keeping with the trends. I am also very obsessed with dressing my daughter, so I left my Little Ones tab up and will blog about children's fashion as well. With that said, my blog is going to focus mainly on fashion, along with products (mostly beauty products) that I love and want others to know about. Also, as I get better at this blogging stuff, I am hoping to post some tutorials (I'm no expert) about hair and make-up, and even styling. So, if any of these topics interest you, please follow me! I get excited if even one person looks at my blog-LOL And just one more note...I plan to give shout outs, post pics of my daughter and my husband and I, and incorporate different events as they happen in our lives, so look for us under the home tab. I hope you enjoy my blog!

Happy Birthday, Erika Lauren!

If you're lucky enough in life to have a sister, then you know how incredible that bond can be. My sister, Erika, and I have the most amazing relationship, and I'm so blessed to have her in my life. She is my best friend, hands down, and someone who I have always looked up to. Love you, sissy! Happy 32nd birthday! XOXO

What to Wear Postpartum

Polka Dot Tie Top: The Limited $49.90
Navy Peasant Top: The Limited $49.95

Teal Blouse: Old Navy $29.94
Faux Leather Shoulder Blouse: The Limited $49.90

White Peasant Top: Old Navy $29.94

Dark Stretch Denim: The Limited $74.90

By request, I am offering up some ideas as to what a woman can wear after she's just had a baby, or is a few weeks, months, and even years out. My sister (who looks fabulous, by the way) asked me to blog about postpartum fashion, so here are some items I felt were good to have for those mama's who have just given birth and are not quite back to their old selves yet. And just as a side note, it takes time to get back to what you once were. I am not ashamed to say it took me an entire year and some change to get back to where I feel comfortable. Don't stress! There are ways to dress your new body (or body for the time being) that are still cute, fun and classy, allowing you to focus on what's really important: your new baby! So here's what I wore out and to work for at least 3-4 months while I got back to feeling a bit more comfortable in my skin. (In case you're wondering, I went back to work 8 weeks after giving birth and was up one size in both tops and pants. I feel like the items listed below were very flatterning early on, and even now, 14 months postpartum.)

The Tops: I tried on several tops while shopping for some back-to-work clothes. I found the looser the better, but really, I was loving tops that had an elastic bottom and sort of bloused out a bit to hide that postpartum pooch. They are also avaliable in just about every store imaginable, so it's easy to find a few in any price range. I bought a few from The Limited on clearance, and some from Old Navy and Target. You may have to go up a size, but that won't matter because the style will be flattering-I promise! What I love about the elastic waist, and even those waist bands that don't stretch, it that the extra band creates a waist that takes the eye away from the belly; most women's most dreaded body part postpartum. I lived in shirts like this when I went out and even wore them to work on a regular basis. Additionally, any kind of lose peasant top that you can put a cami under (such as the white or teal one from Old Navy) is a great way to mask a postpartum pooch as well. Add a chunky neclace or a scarf to accesorize and you will be good to go.

The Pants: As far as work pants/slacks go, I really just went up a size and purchased three new pairs in brown, black and grey. I just stuck to the staple colors that I knew would work with most tops, new or old, that I had in my closet. Jean-wise, I tended to lean more towards a skinny jean with lots of stretch! I am taller (5'8) and my legs didn't look so bad in a skinny jean, so I purchased a new pair from The Limited and wore them ALL THE TIME. I still love them, but at this point they're a little too big. They have so much give though, so I highly recommed finding a pair of strech jeans, skinny or just a regular fit, that you splurge a little on (price-wise) to get that quality and comfort. And the darker, the better! A dark wash and even a black pair of skinnys or jeggings are a great postpartum investment.

(Work pants mentioned above were purchased at The Limited in the Drew fit and Exact Stretch.)

Getting A Tad More Organized

Accordion Hot Pink Organizer $1.00

If you are anything like me, then your purse is always full of receipts! I have more and more now that I am a mom, and I always leave them hanging around in my wallet, which can become a major pain once I open my wallet at the store and they all come falling out. I always browse the dollar bin at Target, and a few weeks back I talked my sister into getting one of these cute and nifty little organizers from the dollar bin at Target. Needless to say, I was at Target on Saturday and bought one for myself. I am not as good as my sister at couponing, but I will definitely try a little harder now that I am a bit more organized. If you hate coupons, you could always just use it for receipts, recipes, grocery lists, or whatever you like. I am going to try and use more coupons because every time I check-out at Target, a million seem to print out! LOL Maybe that's a sign...:) If you're finding my tabs hard to read in the picture, here's what they are:
-Food
-Baby
-Home
-Beauty
-Target (Yes, I have a Target tab:))
-Receipts

 Happy organizing!!
XOXO,
Andrea

Random...But Cute!

This school year I have to pilot a Dell Tablet that I was given to use in my classroom. I have been working hard trying to figure out ways to incorporate it into my lessons, but after teaching for 8 years, and all my work that I have saved on my desktop, it has been hard making the transition from my normal PC to the tablet. I definitely love the tablet though! With that said, I knew I had to have a stylish carrier for it so that when I lug it around, I look cute! LOL Here is one I recently found at Target (where else?) for a steal, at only $9.98! They also had one with a blue stripe. It totally looks like a clutch and I love it:)

**Disclaimer: I could not find the actual carrier that I bought on Target's website, so the link will just take you to ALL of Target's media cases.**

Gift Ideas for a New Baby: What I Brought to the Hospital

At this point in my life, I feel like all of my friends are past the getting married stage and on to the having babies stage (I'm 30 if you're wondering). I have several friends who are expecting right now, and my sister just had her second child last month. Does anyone ever feel like they have no idea what to bring, gift-wise, to the hospital? Here is a list of gifts I put together for my friend, Jen, who just had a baby boy (her baby boy is featured in the blog previous to this one!)

Sweater Onesie: Target
Frame

Gift Card
EOS Lip Balm: Target

Russel Stover's Truffle Balls

1.) Sweater Onsie: A simple and cute gift for the baby is a must-have! I love this piece because he can grow into it and the style is timeless.
2.) Picture Frame: Parents spend a ton of money on those oh-so-adorable newborn pictures. A frame is always a great gift to give, as they probaly won't have much money left to buy many frames once they pay for the actual pictures. LOL
3.) Lip Balm: A small goody for mom:) You can never find your lip balm in the hospital with all of the chaos and excitement of vistors, doctors and nurses coming into your room at any moment. This is a great gift that mom can keep on her nightstand when she is in the hospital with baby. You could also get her a great lotion too. (I bought her the lip balm in sweet mint. It's like a breath freshner and lip balm in one! My fave!)
4.) Gift Cards: Once mom has been cooped up in the house with a newborn for several weeks, she will most likely want to venture out and do some shopping (even pick up a Starbucks) once she and baby are up to it. A gift card gives her a reason to do just that. And who doesn't LOVE Target?
5.) Candy: I was going to do gourmet cupcakes, but the bakery I went to was out, so I opted to get some candies from my local Russel Stover's store. I even slipped in some chocolate-covered oreos for her two older kids...and mom and dad:) Between meals at the hospital, mom and dad, and their other kiddos, if this isn't the first baby, can snack on such goodies, and even offer some up to visitors. But I wouldn't want to share:)

Hope this post gives you some good ideas as to what to take a new mama! Happy shopping!!

Welcome Max...

Congrats to one of my very best friends, Jen, on the birth of her third child, Max. He is simply perfect! "Aunt Annie" cannot wait to meet you tomorrow! Much love to Max's mama and daddy, and to his older siblings, Norah and Ben. What a beautiful and blessed family of 5!

6.)

10.)

Sharing my make-up regimen was something I felt was important to do. Everyone’s is so different and personal, and I most likely do a few things different from the majority of people (or maybe not). All of the items listed are make-up items I use every day. I love make-up; that is probably not a surprise to most who know me, and maybe to some, I wear a lot of make-up, but that’s okay with me. I like the way I look and have been wearing pretty much the same amount of make-up since I was in junior high. With that said, here is what's in my make-up bag.

1.) Bare Minerals Correcting Concealer-$20: I use this concealer in Tan 1, and fell in LOVE with it from the moment I first used it! I was searching for the old Bare Minerals concealer that was a powder form and couldn’t find it in my local Ulta store. To my surprise, the friendly saleswoman said Bare Minerals wasn’t really making it anymore and showed me the liquid correcting concealer. I was a bit iffy as to trying it, but when the saleswoman told me it covered up a burn mark on her face, I was sold! And it covers-really covers! I love it!

2.) Bare Minerals Foundation-$27: I use the foundation colors Medium Beige and Medium Tan (medium beige is my winter color-medium tan is my summer color). I started using Bare Minerals foundation several years ago. I was skeptical at first, as I did not think simply using powder could do/cover what liquid foundation could do/cover, but it did! I go back and forth between BM foundation and MAC foundation. I like both, but prefer the BM. Why? I like the lightness and the coverage and my skin stays pretty breakout-free, which is a HUGE bonus! Also, I can get the BM foundation in a matte, and it really prevents a lot of shine as my make-up wears throughout the day.

3.) MAC Blush-$21: I love MAC! I especially love their blushes and eyeshadows, and am pretty partial to them. I use MAC blush in Sweet as Coco and have not strayed from this blush for years now. It’s a beautiful color that lasts and lasts! I seriously buy it maybe twice a year, so you definitely get your money’s worth.

4.) Covergirl Perfect Blend Eyeliner-$4.50: I love black eyeliner. I used to always use brown because I thought black was too much, but I switched quite a few years ago and love the look of black eyeliner. I should probably state that I am not a fan of liquid liner because I prefer the ease of a soft crayon. This is always my go-to black liner.

5.) Stila Smudge Crayon-$22: This item is my new obsession! After seeing it on The Small Things Blog (check this blog out-she’s amazing!), I have fallen in love! I love a thicker line when I am applying eyeliner and this crayon is so easy to use. I have the crayon in Smoke, and will definitely be purchasing it in Black, too. You could even use this crayon as actual eyeshadow as well; it would just feel more liquid-like, if that makes sense?

6-7.) MAC Eyeshadow-$15: These two MAC eyeshadows are by far, my favorites! I have been using them for at least five years, and rarely do I stray from them. I probably need to branch out a bit; change is good, right? LOL With the shade,Tempting, I always get the brown look I am going for, and it looks fabulous paired with my black Covergirl liner. The Satin Taupe pairs really well with my Stila crayon, and makes for an awesome smokey eye if I want to jazz things up. I am definitely partial to my MAC eyeshadows and don’t really buy other brands. They really just don’t compare.  Additionally, MAC eyeshadow lasts forever! Another bonus in my book J!

8.) Revlon Lip Butter-$6: I love a glossy lip. I definitely need to branch out more when it comes to lipstick, as I tend to wear pretty neutral colors. I wear the Revlon Lip Butter in Crème Brulee. I like the way it glides on and is glossy enough all on its own. It has a great color and lasts for a while, but is not a color-stay lipstick. I would definitely be open to trying other colors of this lipstick.

9.) Victoria Secret Beauty Rush Lip gloss-$7: I have been using this lip gloss for longer than I care to take time to remember. I simply LOVE IT! It smells amazing, it gives you a glossy, but not sticky feel, and it tastes good too! I have one in my desk at work and two in my purse. My favorite color/flavor is Mocktail, but I also love Grapefruit Blast and Strawberry Fizz. I know, it sounds like gloss a 12 year-old would wear, but I swear, you will love it! I often put the Mocktail over my Revlon Lip Butter.

10.) Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer-$9: Simply put, I love this moisturizer because it is odorless, doesn’t feel heavy, and my skin can breathe. I don’t like looking shiny at the end of a work day, and I think I have less shine because I use this product.

I hope this helps if you’re looking to add some special items to your make-up collection. I use a pretty good balance of higher-end and drugstore brands. I am not rich, as my teacher salary can only get me so many items! LOL If you have any questions about any of the products, leave me a comment.

Best,

Andrea

Stay Tuned...

I am not a spokesperson for Birchbox. I just really love it so far!
I REALLY wanted to get in a post this  past Sunday about preparing for the work week (fashion-wise), and will definitely get to that this coming Sunday, 8/25, so look for that this weekend! Also, I just want to give a heads up that I will be blogging my make-up loves later today (what make-up I wear everyday, brands, etc.) if that interests you, so STAY TUNED! Sunday Matinee

I am not planning on using my blog to detail my life, although if something cool pops up, I think I will definitely share. With that said, me, my mom and my sister saw Lee Daniel’s The Butler this morning. It was amazing, simply put. I am always amazed at how insane our country’s history is. We have definitely come a long way. I just felt really moved by how the story gave viewers a glimpse into a remarkable man’s life and how he was able to endure and overcome anything. The movie was inspiring, eye-opening, devastating, funny (really funny at times!), and overall, just beautifully done. I cried at the end, as in my eyes, everything came full circle for Cecil. What a great man. I know I will be thinking about this film all week. There’s my two cents, anyway. I urge you to check it out!

Here Goes Nothing...

I think for many, the decision to start a blog stems from wanting to get their name out there for one reason or another. Photographers, make-up artists, hair stylists, and so many more professionals, and even non-professionals, have blogs these days. I am definitely NOT trying to promote myself in any way, as I am not a brand or a name of any sense in the business world. For me, I am just a creative person who loves to share my ideas and likes. The reason I decided to start a blog is because I needed something, other than social media, to document and share things that I love, such as products, style inspiration, teaching ideas, thoughts on baby products, etc. I love Pinterest and my pins and boards allow me to really showcase who I am and what I love, but as far as writing about those loves, a caption doesn’t really do this girl any justice. So after thinking long and hard about it, and reminding myself that there’s a good possibility that no one will even read my blog, I decided to take the plunge anyway. The truth is, I really don’t care all that much if I don’t have thousands of people subscribe to this blog. This blog, for me, is an outlet. I love so many things and I have so many ideas, that I hope that you, as a reader, can find something here that you love too, or an idea that can help you with your style, beauty, or even in your teaching career. Again, I am not an expert, but I know what I like. And after having people compliment my style or ask me where I got the idea for my daughter’s first birthday, I thought, why not share? So here I go. I am ready to share my two cents because after all, it’s what I love!
Best XOXO,
Andrea
